Dr. Jai N. Gupta works as CEO and chairman of Centerline Biomedical. An engineer by training, Dr. Jai N. Gupta has served as an associate fellow for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Established in 1963 when the American Rocket Society and the Institute of Aerospace Sciences merged, the AIAA gives the aerospace community a place to share ideas. The organization is the world’s largest aerospace society and boasts more than 30,000 members living in more than 85 countries.

In December 2016, the AIAA acknowledged that lawmakers decided to continue a resolution pertaining to federal government spending. The spending package, which totals $1.07 trillion, includes giving NASA flexibility on spending for specific exploration programs. However, the package did not address the current needs for aerospace and defense strategies. In response, the AIAA announced that it plans to work with the new administration and 115th Congress to take care of immediate needs of the military, aviation, and space programs.

A scientific executive with more than 40 years of experience, Dr. Jai N. Gupta serves as chairman and CEO of Centerline Biomedical. Outside of his work with Centerline Biomedical, Dr. Jai N. Gupta is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

A technical society dedicated to advancing the aerospace profession worldwide, AIAA sponsors numerous STEM outreach programs for teachers of grades K-12. The organization works closely with educators, providing classroom grants and helping them organize standards-based projects for their students. Through the Foundation Educator Achievement Award, AIAA recognizes as many as five teachers every two years who have fostered an appreciation of the science and engineering underlying aerospace.

The institute also supports student programs, such as Precision Unmanned Navigation and Cargo Handling (PUNCH). Designed for high school students and undergraduates, the PUNCH program challenges participants to create autonomous systems that deliver packages to precise locations on the competition field. Vehicles must autonomously recognize the target, navigate to it, avoid obstacles, and return to the landing area.

Dr. Jai N. Gupta leads as chief executive of five divisions at L-3 Communications, which acquired his former company, EER Systems. As the former president and founder of EER Systems, Inc., Dr. Jai N. Gupta grew the company to bring in more than $150 million in annual revenue. He also led the company through a difficult case after it became the victim of a Nigerian scam.

EER Systems was one of the first victims of the now infamous Nigerian scams. What was different about EER Systems’ case is that it was one of the few in which the perpetrators were extradited to the United States to stand trial. The transgressors were sentenced to prison and obligated to compensate Dr. Gupta and EER Systems. After they failed to pay, they saw their sentences extended.

Following this case, EER Systems, Dr. Gupta, and one of the company’s vice presidents faced an indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice in a case related to time card fraud. However, both executives were dropped from the case, and the matter was settled out of court.
